Define Long Tail

long tail. There are two main definitions of the term "the long tail," both of them relating to volume. One refers to the sale of products and the perfect example is books on Amazon.

Amazon sells many copies of a bestseller, while it may sell only one or two copies of a lesser known books. But in aggregate, those lesser known books account for 70% or more of the total number of books that Amazon sells.

In Internet marketing, the term is usually applied to SEO. The major insight here is that it is easier to target so-called long tail keywords because fewer pages are optimized for them.
