Define Lead Magnet

lead magnet. Anything that an Internet marketer offers a prospective customer ( a prospect) in exchange for getting that person's email address (the lead).

Lead magnets can take many forms. The most common is a downloadable "special report" provided in PDF form once the prospect has provided an email address.

Hoever, the lead magnet can take the form of a video (downloadable or not) or access to another web page with additional information that the prospect will perceive as valuable. It could even be a physical product.

Lead magnets are most often free, although Internet marketers should be cautious about using that word if they are doing pay-per-click promotions, since Google feels that if someone has to provide an email the lead magnet is not really "free."

Some lead magnets cost money. This is especially true of physical products. But some Internet marketers mught charge a small sum for a digital lead magnet on the theory that this will produce more qualified prospects.

Lead magnets are sometimes referred to as "ethical bribes."
