Define Google Slap

Google slap. Originally the term referred to a change Google made in how it rated web pages that were linked to from AdWords ads. In 2006, Google introduced quality scores and many landing pages received low scores under the ne system with the result that advertisers had to pay much higher prices for their target keywords. Affiliate marketers, who often used very minimal one-page sites, were especially hard hit.

Now the term is used to describe any retaliatory action taken by Google, up to and including banning an account, for actual or perceived violations of Google's terms of service.

There are differing approaches to avoiding the Google slap.

Beating AdWords offers guidance on how to stay within the bounds of what Google considers good behavior.

Copy Paste Systems advocates avoiding Google altogether and using the growing power of Facebook advertising.
