Define Curation

curation. The act and process of presenting on your own site information that you have selected ("curated") either from other sources on the Internet or by asking other people to contribute content. Hence, you will often see references to "curated content."

The term is derived from the word "curator" which refers to the person in a museum or art gallery who selects the objects to be displayed and very often provides educational background information to accompany the exhibition.

Many highly successful sites on the Internet produce very little original content. Instead they present the content of others, sometimes with very brief comments. Two such sites are Huffington Post and Upworthy.

In the Internet marketing world, the word curation is generally used to refer to a site that seeks to establish itself as an authority on a particular subject or niche. The curated content it posts generates traffic, which in turn allows the site to monetize in a variety of ways.
